Images · Problem: My character looks different every time
How do I keep the same character consistent across AI images?
Write a fixed character sheet once and paste it, word for word, into every prompt. Lock the details that identify the character: face shape, hairstyle, clothes, colours and proportions. Change only the scene and the action. If your tool supports reference images, upload your best image as the reference each time.
When to use this
You are making a mascot, a storybook, a comic or a series of posts, and the face or outfit keeps changing.
Copy this prompt
Build my own versionCHARACTER SHEET (do not change any of this): Name: [name] Age and build: [e.g. 8-year-old girl, small and round-faced] Face: [eye shape, eyebrows, nose, skin tone] Hair: [style, length, colour, accessories] Clothes: [exact outfit and colours] Art style: [e.g. soft 3D cartoon, rounded shapes, warm colours] SCENE (this is the only part that changes): [what the character is doing, where, and the mood] Keep the character exactly as described in the sheet. Same face, same hair, same clothes, same proportions, same art style. Aspect ratio: [3:4]
Replace each [bracket] with your own details. Works in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and Meta AI.
Example
What you type in
Name: Mei. 8-year-old girl, round face, short black bob with a yellow clip, red pinafore over a white T-shirt, soft 3D cartoon style. Scene: Mei feeding cats outside a kopitiam.
What you can expect back (shortened)
Mei appears with the same bob, clip and pinafore as in the earlier images, now crouching beside two cats at a kopitiam doorway.
Common mistake
Describing the character differently in each prompt ("a young girl", then "a cute kid"). Every change in wording is a change in the character.
Better follow-up prompt
Create a front, side and back view of this character on a plain background, as a reference sheet.
